The Engineering Staff Member position is responsible for the detailed engineering and service design and documentation, field implementation, and service activation. The function provides engineering support to the Sales Departments in the preparation of the proposals for satellite-based communications systems and networks. The function also provides engineering support to the Operations departments in troubleshooting RF transmission issues.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Electrical Engineering.
- 3-5 years experience in electrical engineering-related work.
- RF transmission engineering experience, satellite communications experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of satellite and terrestrial systems design and a familiarity with equipment that makes up an Earth Station.
- Ability to perform or learn satellite link analyses and understand various modulation techniques.
- Basic understanding of antenna design.
- VSAT and Spread Spectrum knowledge.
- Digital video knowledge highly desirable, but not mandatory.
- IP, IP Multicasting, routing, switching knowledge highly desirable, but not mandatory.
- Strong written and oral skills communication skills.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Requires lifting equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Perform engineering systems design and cost analysis in the development of satellite-based communications service proposals.
- Prepare cost and technical service proposals.
- Support Sales on customers visits.
- Perform satellite link and tradeoff analysis.
- Prepare statements of work and request for quotes for obtaining vendor pricing.
- Assist in the qualification of new vendor equipment/systems for use in new systems designs.
- Generate computer-aided drawings.
- Utilize RF, digital and analog test equipment.
- Install communications equipment for new services in both US and foreign locations.
- Utilize a wide variety of applications software tools specific to Terrestrial Systems Engineering.
- Domestic and International travel may be required.
